You’ll find Björkåfrihet’s popular shop in the Linné neighbourhood, tucked below street level on the corner of Linnégatan and Fjärde Långgatan. Step inside and browse a carefully curated mix of retro-inspired fashion for women, men and children. The selection is updated daily and includes everything from books and ceramics to glassware and one-of-a-kind vintage pieces. Looking for something truly special? Then take a moment to explore the shop’s dedicated vintage design section. With a bit of patience, there’s every chance you’ll uncover a real gem. Rooted in Småland Björkåfrihet started out in Björkå Glasbruk, deep in the forests of Småland. Originally part of the international Emmaus movement, the organisation has since become fully independent and now operates under its own name. More than 50 years of second-hand and solidarity Björkåfrihet doesn’t just work with reuse, it also supports organisations that fight oppression, both in Sweden and around the world. That includes efforts related to healthcare, rehabilitation, asylum rights and support for undocumented people. The shop is also a lively community hub. Throughout the year, you’re invited to take part in themed events celebrating music, books, photography and all things wonderfully niche. Don’t miss Guldkorn, the Easter and Christmas markets, or Nördorado.
