The fabled island of the Blue Virgin, also known as Blåkulla, is a granite dome that rises 86 meters above the sea in the middle of the Kalmar Sound, and has tempted people's curiosity since time immemorial. According to legend, it is to the Blue Virgin that all the Easterlings travel on their brooms. Here there are wind-swept pines, lush deciduous forest and impressive granite cliffs, polished by the sea into exciting shapes. Considering the island's seclusion and the color of its silhouette, it is no wonder that Blue Maiden has become the Blue Hill of fairy tales and folklore. None other than Carl von Linné landed here in 1741 and even then the strange labyrinth "Trojeborg" could be seen on the southern part of the island.
