Fotö

Fotö is a peaceful island with charming houses. Back in the 1600s the houses were clustered around the harbour, but today they can be found all around the island. Around 600 people live here all year round. There’s plenty to discover here. Take a walk along one of the island’s trails – perhaps the circular trial that’s part of Stage 1 of Göteborgs skärgårdsled? For a swim, head to Vivik on the eastern side, where you’ll find a jetty, diving board and tower. You can also enjoy a sauna at the far end of Ussholmen. The sauna accommodates up to eight people at a time and is easily booked at boka.fotohamn.se. In the summer, Café Boa and Holmboms Ark by the harbour are popular stops for a “fika”. Extend your stay by staying overnight. The island has both a guest harbour and a motorhome park. You can also book the hostel on the neighbouring island Risö – a simple accommodation that can only be reached by boat. Fotö itself is reached via Hönö, either by public transport or by car.
