Gamla Ullevi

Gamla Ullevi arena is an important football stadium in Gothenburg. It is home to the alliance clubs IFK Göteborg, GAIS and Örgryte IS, who all play their home matches here. On the same pitch, the Swedish women’s national team has written history. The current stadium was inaugurated in 2009. The previous one, in use since 1916, was demolished in 2007. But its history dates back even further. In the late 1800s, a cycling velodrome stood on this very spot, and it was here that Sweden played its first international football match – against Norway in June 1908. Sweden won 11–3.
