Kronhuset och Kronhusbodarna

Kronhusgatan 1D, Göteborg

Just a few minutes’ walk from the shopping mall Nordstan and the square Gustaf Adolfs Torg, you’ll find one of Gothenburg’s oldest buildings – Kronhuset. Today, it is the city’s best-preserved 17th-century building, originally used as a storehouse for military uniforms and equipment. It was also here that the then four-year-old Karl XI was proclaimed king in 1660. Today, Kronhuset is home to Bagih, part of the municipal property company Higab, offering a creative arena for cultural events and activities. These include everything from Kronhusjul and festivals to various other activities throughout the year. Surrounding Kronhuset are the small studios known as Kronhusbodarna, dating back to the 18th century. The original wooden buildings were destroyed in a fire 1746 and later replaced by stone buildings still standing today. Since the 1970s, this area has been a vibrant centre for crafts. Today, the small studios are home to a cosy café and several shops selling handmade crafts.
