Oceanen

Since 1997, the cultural venue Oceanen at Stigbergstorget has been home to musicians, artists, writers, as well as dance and theatre collectives. Housed in the former Oceanographic Institute, it now hosts initiatives such as Clandestino Institut and the World Dance Company. With over 120 public events each year, Oceanen’s stage is a platform for the new and the unexpected – where future favorite bands share space with emerging club concepts and experimental poetry readings. In 2025, Kulturköket Oceanen opened – a new initiative where the entire operation on the first floor is now owned and run by the association. With a fully vegetarian kitchen inspired by Afghan and Iranian flavors, dishes such as manto, bolani, and ghormeh sabzi are prepared with care and deep culinary tradition. The space has been thoughtfully renovated by the association’s staff, volunteers, and members. The newly furnished dining room features two small stages for guest performances and spontaneous acts. Visitors can relax in the lush courtyard with a book from the small in-house library, or explore contemporary art in the gallery showcasing works by students from Gothenburg’s various art schools. The bar offers a carefully curated selection of beverages to complement the flavors of the kitchen, ranging from local non-alcoholic options to classic favorites.
