SevärdheterSandsjöbacka naturreservat
Sandsjöbacka is a vast nature reserve that welcomes everyone – from confident hikers to those discovering nature for the first time. It stretches from Gothenburg in the north to Kungsbacka in the south. Varied landscapes and rich wildlife The landscape ranges from heather moorland and forests to small lakes and wetlands. However, the area is best known for the expansive heath in the central part of the reserve. The wildlife is just as diverse. Elk, deer, foxes, badgers and hares all live here, alongside a wide variety of bird species. Around 80 different species nest in the area. With a bit of luck you might spot both buzzards and sparrowhawks. Walk, hike and swim There are plenty of trails to follow in the reserve. If you’re looking for a full-day hike, the trail Sandsjöbackaleden is a great choice. It stretches 22 kilometres through the reserve, from north to south. If you’re planning to stay overnight, there are three wind shelters along the trail that you’re welcome to use. However, pitching a tent is not permitted in the reserve. If you’re in the mood for a swim, there’s a bathing spot at the Lake Sisjön, located in the northern part of the reserve. In winter, the lake is also a popular spot for ice skating. Getting here If you’re travelling by public transport from central Gothenburg, take tram number 1, 2, 3 or 7 to Marklandsgatan. From there, transfer to bus 83 or 84 and get off at Askims Svartmosse. From the bus stop, it’s just a short walk to the entrance closest to the lake Sisjön. If you’re arriving by car, there are several parking areas located at various entrances around the reserve.
