SevärdheterSkansen Kronan
Today, Skansen Kronan is one of Gothenburg’s most unique venues, hosting everything from weddings and parties to conferences. While the former fortress isn’t open for spontaneous visits, it’s well worth experiencing from the outside. From here, you’ll have a striking view of the city. Next to the historic fortification, there’s a charming waffle café open during parts of the year. In summer, the nearby outdoor terrace occasionally hosts concerts. Over the years, Skansen Kronan has served many purposes. It was originally built as a defence facility, designed by Erik Dahlbergh and completed in 1700. When finished, it was equipped with 23 cannons and ready for battle, although it was never attacked. In the 19th century, it became a prison and was later used as emergency housing. In the 20th century, it served as a military museum, displaying weapons and uniforms.
